Second transnational meeting of MIGRIMAGE in Lecce, Italy.
On 17, 18 and 19 February our Italian partners, the Universitá del Salento and ARCI, organised a second MIGRIMAGE meeting in Lecce. In this beautiful city of Puglia, we shared a few days of work dedicated to the coordination and launching of the intellectual outputs of the project, which will conclude this September.
On the one hand, we have finalised the programmes of three interesting summer schools that will be held between May and September in the three project sites. These schools aim to pilot a synthesis of the academic contents developed in MIGRIMAGE, which combine innovative communication tools with the objective of connecting three areas of the southern border of Europe along the Mediterranean. The courses, which will be free of charge for students, will cover transmedia narratives and social activism (from Granada), digital and citizen journalism (from Lecce), and collaborative mapping and audiovisual creation as tools for active border research (from Lesbos). Students can take these schools, choosing from one or more training itineraries. The MIGRIMAGE summer schools will have a blended learning format, offering part of the contents online and with face-to-face training workshops in Ceuta, Lecce and Lesbos.
We also shared in Lecce the development of the contents of the project’s MOOC, which will be launched in September 2022. This MOOC presents the main issues facing border spaces, both around the border management policies of the European Union, as well as in the communities of solidarity and mutual support and the practices of autonomy of migrants in these contexts. The MOOC, which will consist of 8 modules, offers a comparative view of these three spaces. It will undoubtedly be a training tool of great interest for those who want to acquire a broad view of the southern border. Finally, we continue to make progress in the administrative management and coordination of content and academic calendar of the international master’s degree in Communication Studies and Border Cultures, which will be launched for the 2022/2023 academic year among the universities of the consortium.
This exciting work is made visible through the joint work of the NGOs and universities of the consortium, where all contributions are complementary and fundamental for the achievement of our objectives. The face-to-face meetings are an opportunity to feel more deeply the value of the training tools that we develop, because they reflect the strength of this trans-Mediterranean and cross-border network, which aims to create training spaces for communication and solidarity in the face of realities towards which we must turn our gaze.
